Help inspire students to pursue High-Tech careers

STEMfire sign upAs a high-tech marketing professional, I am asking for your help in promoting a new initiative that will help change the future of the high-tech industry.  As you know, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related jobs in Texas are projected to grow by 22 percent by 2018, but only 12 percent of the degrees earned by college graduates are in STEM fields. Without an adequate workforce for the 758,000 jobs that will need to be filled, North Texas technology companies will suffer and our community will be hampered from the growth that tech jobs can bring.

Forward Vision Marketing is dedicated to the high-tech industry marketing and that is why I am a co-chair of the Metroplex Technology Business Council STEM marketing team. We have just launched a website called STEMfire.com. This website is a database that connects industry professionals with educators in North Texas school districts who want volunteers for classroom and school events, or need guidance creating lessons plans with real-life STEM activities. STEMfire enables YOU to choose the opportunities most appealing to YOUR interests, so you can inspire students in your own way and in an area that you choose.

All you have to do is register at STEMfire.com, then search the list for opportunities to give back. Once you are registered, educators also may contact you based on the information you provide in your profile. It’s that easy. Your efforts will help boost the talent pool in our industry.

Do you remember who inspired you to pursue a career in a STEM field? Today’s students need that inspiration as well. If you can spare even one or two hours a year, please volunteer to make a difference. Speak at a Career Day. Consult on a special project or topic. Be a judge at a Science Fair. A small amount of your time will have a huge impact in the life of a child and to our industry moving forward.

Please go to STEMfire.com and create your profile today.
